Describe how you work in a team with your partners.

Throughout my volleyball career I have found many life long friends within the teams. Creating relationships with my teammates have made us work better as a unit and keep the team as a whole. One of the most challenging aspects of the game is being a team and I have taken on the leader role in many teams to keep everyone together and supporting everyone’s concerns. Through many years of playing I have almost always been with my twin sister Laura. We have built trust and understanding of the others play style that we can rely on each other in every scenario. I am always looking for support from my teammates and will reciprocate it however they need.

Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:

This season came with many up and downs for my team, but the achievement I remember the best out of all is our fight back to winning. During this game our spirits were down and we were falling behind, but once I got on a service run more hope and confidence was gained. I remember this so well because the energy shift was so positive and determined that we fought harder than we ever have to win the set! The confidence and focus of myself helped the entire team win the set and smart plays gave me the confidence to trust in my ability. The feeling of the entire team being there for each other is the best feeling in a team game when the people beside you matter just as much as skill.

What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?

Off of the court my biggest interest is visual arts, which I am considering a career in. I enjoy being able to create a visual image of my ideas such as people and places. I am currently working on an animation projects for my animation class, it is a long and tedious task but I am happy to have an opportunity to bring my ideas to life through this animation, I am excited to finish and look back on my hard work through out the project. I can often be found drawing on my free time, I enjoy drawing and it has many benefits to it such as, coordination and focus.

Who are your role models and why?

The person I model my athletic career over is Alisha Glass. I strive to achieve and accomplish similar things to her. Alisha as an athlete was never falling behind and her determination earned her international awards of being the best setter. She achieved these by being intelligent and competitive on the court and understanding her teammates. Alisha Glass has moved on to being the assistant coach on the US national team and her goal is to bring those moments of excitement and stimulation to her team that volleyball gave her. I watch her as a role model because of her commitment and clear love of volleyball, which I strive to maintain. Watching her gameplay is always astonishing and the viewer can tell how many years of her life she has put into it.

Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?

Having involvement in activities other than volleyball is important to me because it gives me a way to discover the rest of my personality that’s not connected to volleyball in different areas of my life. I have taken extra visual and creative arts as well as design courses that have helped me develop a style I can reflect on. One part of my life, for example volleyball, does not show my entire self but it is an important part of my life that I carry onwards into the rest.

Academic highlights and how you felt when you received them?

Throughout my two, coming up on three years at St. Benedict I was able to be on Honour Roll every year. It is truly a big accomplishment and encourages me to work harder so I can achieve it the next year, I am proud that I have been able to be on Honour Roll as much as I have! I have also taken LEAP every year, which take up two periods and really push you to become the best you can be. Being able to take this course is an example of not only my athletic ability but my ability to be able to handle both my mental and psychical well being.

What program would you like to attend in school?

The programs I am looking into are visual arts and design. I would like to go into design in character, backgrounds and fashion and find and possibly animation as well. My plans are not fully realized yet and may change, but a future in the arts is very exciting to me and I can not wait to surround my life in it!

How do you envision your school life in college/university?

When I think about my life in college/university I envision a space where I can be around others who share interests with me and being able to discipline myself with independents and priorities. Playing volleyball in post secondary will take my years of volleyball to the next level, to be able to play along side people who I know will have the same commitment and interest as me. I am excited for the memories and friends I will make in college/university and being able to pursue my passions through academic studies. Being able to balance my studies and sports is very important to me and I feel college/university is the perfect space to use my learned discipline and commitment. I look forward to what is there for me in my future and excited to take advantage of every opportunity.
