Describe how you work in a team with your partners.

I thrive on team sports! Prior to COVID, I played several competitive team sports including Regional Soccer and Basketball as well as multiple school sports. As a teammate, I always believed that I cannot expect from others what I am not prepared to give myself. I love to push myself and while doing so, encourage my teammates to do the same. As a team captain, I take my leadership role very seriously and want the best for the team. I encourage, challenge, and cheer for my teammates and love the energy that gives us as a team. On the court and on the bench I am a noticeable voice, encouraging and pushing for excellence. Off the court, I tend to revert to my more quiet self and enjoy both alone time and spending down time with friends. I understand the importance of building strong relationships of trust and friendship as a team. As a leader, I strive to set a positive tone and lead by example in the way I talk about other players and work to shut down any negativity that can appear.

Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:

One of the highlights for me this year was being invited to play with the 17U team at a tournament. Contributing to their gold medal win was a rush. I was proud of my contribution and thrilled to be part of a team that was so committed to winning. Winning gold in team sports is so rewarding as it means that the results were directly attributed to the efforts of all the players and coaches.

What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?

I love learning. I read and enjoy studying history and anthropology – why societies behave and act the way they do. I love to travel with my family and could do road trips every day – including away tournaments. Camping and playing sports with my family are always highlights of my summer. I have two older sisters and enjoy the competition that they bring to my life.

Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?

I love sports and enjoy the challenge of learning and developing the skills necessary to find success in them. I played Regional Soccer, club basketball, and numerous varsity sports at school. I love to try new things. Although I continue to play several sports at school and recreationally, I have fallen in love with competitive volleyball. My competitive nature pushes me to want to understand the mechanics of the sport and to find ways to build on the skills needed for success. I tend to approach most of my interactions with sports in this fashion – learning the sport, understanding the objectives, and by doing so, the skills needed for success. I approach other areas of my life in the same way. I need to be able to understand things for me to fully enjoy them.

Academic highlights and how you felt when you received them?

As in sports, my competitiveness tends to shape my definition of success in the classroom as well. I strive for good grades and, as is the case in math, this sometimes takes considerable effort. So, when I get recognition for success, including maintaining my honor student status, I feel extremely proud as I know that this is a result of considerable effort.

What program would you like to attend in school?

I hope to study anthropology, history, and/or geography at university.

How do you envision your school life in college/university?

I envision my college/university life to be a busy and fulfilling time of academic studies and varsity sports. I am really looking forward to being part of a competitive volleyball team and representing my university while getting an amazing education.
