Describe how you work in a team with your partners.

Playing beach volleyball has allowed me to learn and recognize when I need to take initiative and lead or when I can follow a more experienced player than myself to allow my team maximum success on and off the court.

Athletic highlights and how you felt when you received them:

One of my athletic highlights would be when I won the bronze medal in 14U provincials this year. When this accomplishment happened I was very proud not only of myself for all the hard work and time that was spent in preparation for this tournament but also for my partner who pushed through the tournament and guided us to accomplish the win. We were both playing a year up and challenging ourselves.

What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?

Outside of sports I enjoy playing basketball at the park with my friends from the neighborhood. I find it very valuable to play other sports outside of volleyball. Cross training allows me to elevate my beach volleyball. Examples of this would be when I practice rebounding the ball in basketball. Rebounding helps with my vertical and getting to the block in games. I also love writing and drawing because it is a way to relax and go into my own place where I can be calm.

Who are your role models and why?

My role model is Canadian Beach Volleyball Olympian Melissa Humana-Paredes. I look up to Melissa because I admire the way she plays volleyball. I enjoy watching her games on the television and on Youtube. I appreciate how she motivates and brings up her partners energy when on a timeout or break which can be heard if you listen closely to the footage that is online of some of her games. These are qualities that I would love to improve on and incorporate into my play.

Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?

Something unique about me is that I am a high-performance dual athlete, I played two rep sports over the last three years. I have played basketball since I was 5 years old. I’m proud of the fact that in 2022 I won the division 1 Ontario championships as the starting point guard for the North Toronto Huskies basketball team. Even with all my success in basketball, my true passion is to become an NCAA athlete in beach volleyball. I have made this choice to focus on beach volleyball because I thrive on the competitive nature of the sport. It fuels me to be the best I can be. With two players on the court, it allows me to have more control and accountability which is unlike any sports I have ever played before.

What program would you like to attend in school?

Pre-Med because I would like to become a doctor like my father and my grandfather.

How do you envision your school life in college/university?

In university I see myself working hard on my studies and academics, all the while also keeping the focus on beach volleyball. I would like to play volleyball daily and have workouts to help me build and improve as a player and teammate. I would also like to make new friends and meet new people from different backgrounds as well as open my mind to new coaching styles and ways to play.
