Describe how you work in a team with your partners.
To me, a successful team comes from a strong bond between players and coaches. During games, practices, and training sessions I am focused on staying positive, supporting my teammates, and asking my coaches questions so this bond grows stronger. It is especially important to work well with your teammates through communication and encouragement on and off the court. Building friendships on the team is just as important. It is pretty easy for me to make new friends and build a connection with new people, so there is no tension on the court during games or practices.
- Gold in Volleyball Alberta premier 1 (2020):
Winning gold as a team, in our first premier of the season, gave me an immense feeling of pride and excitement knowing we had accomplished our main goal and worked great together as a team.
- Most outstanding player (2019 school year):
Receiving this award made me feel like all my hard work and commitment throughout the season had payed off. This award also motivated me to keep striving for more and to accomplish bigger goals of mine.
What are your interests outside of sports? Why do you like them?
My interests outside of sports include travelling, camping, hiking, and spending time with friends and family. I am a very active person and love anything to do with nature or being outdoors. It is even better to do these things with the people I love. My favourite places to travel are to the mountains or any beach. Once Covid is over, I am looking forward to more travelling outside of the country with my family.
Who are your role models and why?
The biggest role models in my life are my parents. They always push me to do my best and encourage me to keep going. With their very busy schedules they always make time to be at any event of mine. They are my number 1 supporters through every up and down, and taught me that anything is possible with hard work and dedication. Another role model of mine is Sarah Pavan. Her dedication to the sport motivates me to work my best every single day so that one day, I can compete in the level of volleyball she does.
Involvement in other sports or extracurricular. Why is it important for you?
- Badminto
- Handball
- Skiing
- Track and field:
- Long jump
- Triple jump
- High jump
- 100 meter sprint
Involvement in sports, other than volleyball, is important to me so I can stay active and develop new skills to carry onto the volleyball court. These skills can include faster movement, staying low and leadership skills from different team sports.
Academic highlights and how you felt when you received them?
Honours and honours with distinction: When I received these awards throughout Jr. High and high school I felt very proud of all the hard work, dedication and time I spent working towards getting them. With a busy schedule filled with volleyball and other sports, I am very proud of my productivity and time management skills. One of my biggest academic goals each year is to finish with honours, so I felt very happy to have reached that goal every year.
What program would you like to attend in school?
I am not entirely sure on what programs I want to take in college or university yet, although I do have an interest in sports medicine and psychology that I may wish to pursue in the future.
How do you envision your school life in college/university?
I envision my life in college/university to be very busy with school and volleyball. Although it will be busy, I will enjoy every minute of it as I will be doing the things I love. I am also looking forward to meeting new people and building friendships with my new teammates and classmates. I hope to go to college/ university away from home so I can experience living on my own or with a roommate.
